FY2009 CMAQ Program Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) is a federal program established under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991 and reauthorized in Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) in 2005. The purpose of the CMAQ program is to fund transportation projects or programs that will contribute to attainment or maintenance of the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for ozone, carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter (PM). The ConnDOT CMAQ Program Guide 2007 provides guidance and the application. CMAQ applications with priorities approved by the MPO are due at ConnDOT before October 1, 2008. CMAQ project concepts are due at SWRPA by August 4, 2008. Full applications are due at SWRPA on August 25, 2008 and will be followed by TTAG and MPO reviews and approvals in September 2008. Last year, the Norwalk Transit District SoNo-Maritime Shuttle and Stamford Urban Transitway traffic signals were funded through this program. Eligible projects fall into the following categories:

Applicants are encouraged to submit their
candidate CMAQ projects as soon as possible so they can be reviewed by ConnDOT for eligibility.
This pre-application submittal would be the project name,
brief narrative, cost estimate and schedule. For more detailed information regarding program guidelines and application requirements, please see the application documents below.
